Author Statement, The Box In the Woods:
Have you ever played a multiplayer game with a friend and they left you to die? This work is inspired by similar events and by my love of giving the reader a choice to choose. In a game you have to make split second decisions sometimes. This story is more of a thriller than other things I have written, but I enjoyed writing it nonetheless. I think this story will also tell you a bit about yourself as a person.

  • Author Statement, Thoughts & Recollections: I have ADHD, otherwise known as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Going through the pandemic, getting laid off, and struggling to do online school made dealing with my ADHD almost unmanageable. This group of poems relays some of my experiences during the pandemic. I worked with students who were failing all of their classes. I managed to graduate from NOVA in December 2020. I struggled immensely just as the world did. Some of these poems may resonate with you. Some may give some insight to what a brain like mine was thinking during this time.

    Author's Reflection:

I would describe myself as a free thinking writer, and for the most part I do not use a whole lot of structure.
One of the best methods I learned in sixth grade, when my language arts teacher taught my class a fun writing exercise.
We would essentially open our one dollar notebooks, find an open spot, and write as much as we could within a five minute time frame.
It could be a comic book, it could be a story, literally whatever came to our underdeveloped twelve year old imaginations.
I try to use that to my advantage as much as possible, to keep my writing fresh and something I enjoy. I have recently enjoyed writing memoirs, as a sort of self-reflection on my life.
It has healed a few memories, and inspired a few new concepts for what I enjoy writing in my day to day life.
Digital writing has been a unique experience, and one I have enjoyed immensely. When presented with the challenge of writing an Ebook, I really dove into wanting to explore poetry.
Pre-pandemic, I used to love writing and reading. Something about isolation changed everything for me.
Isolation was miserable, and I did not want to do anything to change it.
Now, two years later, I have rekindled a love for both. This class in digital writing has changed my perspective on authorship, what it means to be an author, and challenging yourself to use a new platform in order to create something entirely new.
